Such a simple task that holds a lot of benefits

Your alarm cuts through the silence. You smack your phone repeatedly until the offending noise stops. You might mutter to yourself and roll back over. But eventually, the tasks waiting for you once you leave the comfort of your bed start flooding in. You start to feel anxious and possibly even frantic about what the day will bring. You force yourself to sit up and your feet hit the floor.

Taking a shower, brushing your teeth, or eating breakfast all might sound like good first tasks to tackle. However, there is something you can do that is easy and only takes a few minutes.

Make your bed.

I know, such a simple task but in my experience, it can set the tone for the entire day.

Appearance of Cleanliness and Organization

We have all walked into a friends or significant others bedroom and cringed at the sight of an unmade bed. The flattened pillows and the blankets bunched together in a pile. The fitted sheet that is barely hanging on to the corner of the mattress.

I am not saying you should make your bed to impress or please visitors. However, what I am saying, is that making your bed does make a room seem more clean and organized.

I am the type of person that gets anxious and has a hard time focusing in a room that is cluttered or dirty. So, making my bed is an easy way to give me the illusion of a clean and organized room (just ignore the piles of laundry!).

Easy First Task of the Day

Life brings struggles. Sometimes those struggles make daily life extremely difficult to face. What we are going through can make it impossible to complete any type of task, no matter the difficulty or amount of time.

I don’t know about you, but when I am struggling and am unable to do much, it makes me feel even worse. Life becomes a cruel cycle that feels impossible to conquer.

One task that I have forced myself to complete, even on days where I barely feel like standing, is make my bed. It is simple and does not require much energy or time. The act of making your bed when you feel like you can’t accomplish anything else, is so powerful. It gives you confidence to try and tackle more throughout the day, or at the very least, it allows you to complete one task for the day.

Makes Going to Bed More Enjoyable

I don’t know about you, but after a long day, there is nothing better then pulling back the comforter on your bed and landing on the crisp sheets. The sheets feel clean, the pillows are perfectly fluffed, and the comforter lays just right.

When you don’t make your bed, the sheets are all bunched up and the pillows are flat when you get into bed for the night.

I might just be extremely picky, but how my bed feels when I lay down for the night makes a difference!

Feeling of Control Over Your Environment

Lastly, making your bed can give you a sense of control over the environment you inhabit. Sometimes our environment can feel like it is out of our control and can really mess with how we feel. By making the bed, we give ourselves a sense of control and therefore make being in our home more enjoyable.

Plus, if you have a pet that enjoys spending their day snoozing on your bed, I’m sure they appreciate a well made bed too!

Do not underestimate the power of a simple task such as making the bed. It really can set the tone for the entire day.

So do yourself a favor and make that bed in the morning. Your tired self will thank you!
