They are there for us when we feel scared and alone

A few months ago, I found myself waiting to be called back for surgery. My heart was racing and my hands were clammy. Hospitals put me on edge, but I am pretty sure most people would say the same.

After what felt like an eternity, but in reality was only a few minutes, my name was called and I was led into pre-op.

When I find myself in stressful situations, I always turn to humor and try to be as nice as possible. I would hate to be short with someone just because I am scared.

So, I relied on…

Causing drama is such a waste of time

I was fortunate to have a pretty good life growing up.

Parents were married, we had money for whatever we needed, and I had a good group of friends.

But of course, as a teenager, I went through the familiar angst that we all experience.

In some ways, that angst threw me off course and in my mind, changed the outcome of particular events.

Our teenage and college years have the power to change the course of our lives. We can make some really good, or really bad, decisions.

Some of those decisions will have us shaking our heads at…

Such a simple task that holds a lot of benefits

Your alarm cuts through the silence. You smack your phone repeatedly until the offending noise stops. You might mutter to yourself and roll back over. But eventually, the tasks waiting for you once you leave the comfort of your bed start flooding in. You start to feel anxious and possibly even frantic about what the day will bring. You force yourself to sit up and your feet hit the floor.

Taking a shower, brushing your teeth, or eating breakfast all might sound like good first tasks to tackle. …

When you assume, you know nothing.

We all have bad habits. Not one person out there is a shining example of perfection. Some of us talk too much and don’t listen enough. Others have a heightened sense of importance.

Then there are those that assume to know without finding out for sure.

That’s me. I am one of those people. Well, I was up until I realized the damage it can cause. Now I am working on myself and attempting to turn things around.

In my opinion, assuming to know how your significant other feels without talking to them is…

It was something I didn’t know I needed

Like everyone else, my routine has recently and drastically changed. I am now working from home full-time. Working from home is different than working at the office because I now have the ability to do some self-care during the day that I normally wouldn’t be able to do.

As you probably already know, self-care looks different to everyone. Some people meditate or do yoga. Some people spend extra time with loved ones.

For me, I discovered that self-care for me means that I am looking for an escape from the real world…

That is all you can do

I don’t know about you, but lately, I have been feeling guilty about not writing as much. I was in a good routine where I was producing one article a day. I finally found my groove and I was loving it.

And then, the disruption happened.

The time I spent writing turned into checking the news and discussing what my work place was going to do with fellow co-workers.

Before I knew it, I hadn’t written anything in a few days. That shocked me.

Then the guilt settled in. I started to beat myself up. My goal has been to…

Now is a good time to experiment

Due to everything going on lately, I have found myself scrolling social media and watching the news more than writing.

However, I can feel that it is taking a toll on my mental state, so I believe that I need something else to focus on. I think that writing will help me feel better.

At the moment, I have no idea what to write about. Usually, I enjoy writing about life lessons, or things I have discovered about writing. Right now, I am so distracted that I can’t focus on any of the topics I usually love to dive into.

If you don’t, you will have a hard time reaching your goals

Goals can help motivate you. They can push you to keep trying when all you want to do is give up. The hope of achieving said goal is the reason you get out of bed in the morning.

But what happens when you create goals that you can’t achieve?

Let me explain.

If you set a goal, with clear and obtainable objectives, you are more likely to reach that goal. Even surpass it, and keep going.

However, if you are like me, and set these huge lofty goals with a discombobulated thought pattern for success, you will not even come…

Writing doesn’t pay the bills yet, so I am still living that office life

Photo by Tyler Franta on Unsplash

I currently work at a law firm where I sit in front of a computer all day, with minimal social interaction.

It is difficult for me to come into the office every day without feeling bummed when I think about the 8 hour day stretching out in front of me.

However, I need the money, and at the moment, I am not able to quit my job to write full time. Not yet, anyway.

So, I needed to find a way to make working in this office more bearable. …

#3: Eliminated negative self-talk

Photo by Hello I'm Nik 🍌 on Unsplash

At some point, we all have, or will, struggle with our self-esteem. We may feel as if we aren’t enough for our loved ones. We question if we can do anything right. We may start to not like ourselves.

The longer we focus on negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves, those thoughts start to cement themselves in our brains. We believe that all of the bad qualities we feel about ourselves are true.

When they aren’t.

Starting in high school and throughout my early 20s, I would say that I had pretty low self-esteem. …
